As we begin to open our spiritual senses and travel beyond the physical body—whether in dreams, entheogenic ceremonies with the use of plant medicine, or other forms of intentional astral work—we inevitably pass through realms of consciousness that are not always filled with light. Just as the material world holds both beauty and suffering, the astral planes also contain layers where lost, confused, or malevolent spirits exist. 

These so-called “obsessor spirits” are often drawn to the vibrational resonance of unresolved emotions, unconscious fears, or openings in our energetic boundaries.

The sovereignty prayer is probably one of the most important tools for confronting negative or obsessor spirits. It was received during an exorcism a few years back and has been used as one of my most powerful prayers during my work as a practicing medium.

This prayer is a divinated code, more than the words themselves; it brings about a profound energetic impact and emits a deflecting force of free will and sovereignty.

It is the way of darkness to act without permission;
it is the way of light to honor your free will.

Understanding this core foundational and universal truth helps us in discerning in our choice of which spirit we allow in our sphere. Benevolent spirits will always abide by this rule and will enter only when permitted and asked for.

Obsessor spirits don’t ask for permission and thus attempt to influence us with their negativity.

An essential part of our mediumistic development lies within learning sovereignty. This topic is crucial for human evolution, whether in connection to spirit or within our relationships with each other. Obsessor spirits often visit us through their attachment to wounding regarding codependency and choice.

When confronted with negative thinking, neurotic or obsessive thoughts, say the sovereignty prayer out loud, feel the impact of this declaration, and focus on your heart. Once the obsessor spirit is deflected, sit with the question, what inner change is being called for so I can heal, shift, or transform.

Remember that spiritual challenges not only happen to you, but for you, they are a consequence of lessons you are called to learn.

Learn to observe your energetic field, but more than cleaning it properly, learn to understand where it has gaps of consciousness that require healing.
